Overseas Work
EWB works in partnership with developing communities around the world, helping them to gain access to the appropriate technologies to improve their lives. We focus on developing the capacity of the local technical sector to ensure that innovative, appropriate and sustainable solutions to issues that impede development are locally generated and available. We work with communities and ensure that our projects address root cause problems. As a prerequisite for a sustainable solution our projects ensure that communities have ownership over, and drive, the solution.
Overseas projects typically cover three sectors:
- Water and Sanitation
- Agriculture Value Chains
- Micro Enterprise and Good Governance
Engineers Without Borders has two types of overseas placements - Junior Fellow placements and Long Term Placements. While the purpose of a Junior Fellow placement is primarily to learn and bring back knowledge and drive positive change in Canada, the purpose of a long-term placement is to have a positive impact on the community overseas.
Our volunteers work in the following countries:
- Burkina Faso
- Malawi
- Ghana
- Zambia
No two EWB volunteers have the same job—each volunteer determines based on the needs of the community and the operations of their partner organisation, how they can best have impact on developing communities.
